Where to Submit?

I've been looking at alot of the newer and some older directories lately and I've noticed alot of crumy setups. For instance, some have adsense all over their sites, some use searchfeed to supplement the results, and some even charge submission fees upwards of $75 for a page that isnt even Cached by Google.

Bruce of Wow Directory made a good post at SeoZip the other day.

Lots of under developed low quality directories springing up. They are only selling links and won’t last long. Webmasters will smarten up and learn that a directory with little to no cached pages will not provide a link or provide any value to submit and we will see lots of for sale signs and closings. The list of general directories that are worth submitting is actually very short.
All I can say is that I agree with Bruce in that the list of directories to submit to is getting very short. If you're submitting to a directory for search engine reasons (eg, a quality backlink), then I would first and foremost check to see if the page is cached by Google.

Good advice for sure. Do you have a list of directories that are still working submitting to (free & paid)?
